Tristar Athlete, your training block has been created in such a way that your coach has created alternating race distances by each week. This means for instance you may be preparing for a half ironman or full ironman triathlon while at the same time have a week that is focused on the energy systems needed for an olympic distance race.
Why do it?
Endurance sports have many different energy systems that need to be worked. Some overlap at times.
Quality vs quantity; Often times you can deliver more quality in the program when you are working various outputs in this way.
Often times in preparing for a longer distance even, shorter race distances will be part of your training as preparation and being ready for both race distances can be accomplished in this way.
Variation; this also provides variation for you and allows your brain and body differentiation and stimulus to produce greater results.
The total volume; The longer training sessions may go up and down however the total block has a general building trend in the early weeks before having a step back week in terms of total training stress.
One benefit of this type of training block is that as an athlete you need not “ride long” or “run long” every weekend which can be time consuming as a busy athlete!
Good luck with your training block and thats 411 from our coaches and team 👨🏻💻

As the adage goes, there is no ”I” in team and I want to join your team, helping get you to the start and finish lines of your races. I enjoy creating individualized training plans that reward discipline and consistency as well as providing experienced guidance to achieve your goals." —Coach Suzanne Turner
"Consistency trumps 'big days'. Continuously making deposits in the fitness bank, as small as they may sometimes seem, will make a big withdrawal on race day that much more manageable. That said, every so often 'life happens' and some course-correction is inevitable - that's where the TriStar coaching approach, backed by science and experience, is guaranteed to make a difference." —Coach Attila Kelemen
